Baritone
Biography
Lester Lynch trained at the Juilliard Opera Center and received American awards — the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions, the George London Foundation, the Sullivan Foundation and the Richard Gaddes Award of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis — and performed baritone roles. Rigoletto, Macbeth, Nabucco, Scarpia, Iago, Crown in Porgy and Bess and Wotan in Das Rheingold form part of his repertory. He has performed at San Francisco Opera, La Scala, the Royal Opera House, the Semperoper Dresden and English National Opera. He became an exclusive Pentatone artist and has recorded Verdi and Puccini and, in 2017, a solo album of spirituals and hymns, On My Journey Now. He has taught and given masterclasses at conservatories in the United States and abroad. Lynch comes from Ohio. Shylock in The Merchant of Venice has taken him to Covent Garden and Welsh National Opera, Crown also to Vienna, and the title role of Busoni's Doktor Faust to Dresden, while Amonasro and the Count di Luna belong to his Verdi. A later album is Full Circle: Reflections on My Journey.
