Biography
Luan Durmishi took his degree in opera singing at the Academy of Music in Pristina in 2006 and a master's afterwards, and in 2013–14 held a scholarship from the Pennsylvania-based Voce Doro institute for training in New York, working on technique and on the operatic and musical-theatre repertory with the soprano Dorothy Stone. Concert work since 2003 has taken him across the Balkans and western Europe and on to the United States — the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Tirana, the Lalish Theater in Vienna, the Philharmonic Hall in Skopje, the Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen, La MaMa in New York, the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. Classically trained, he has moved outward into musical theatre and into contemporary and alternative music, working with the director Bekim Lumi, the violinist Alexandre Dubach and the composer Ēriks Ešenvalds. He founded the Rexho Mulliqi chamber orchestra, teaches at UBT University in Pristina, and works as a vocal coach. He joined the Kosovo Philharmonic Choir in 2003, singing both choral and solo parts.
