Composer
Biography
Lucio Dalla was a jazz clarinettist before he was a songwriter. Born in Bologna in 1943, he moved between beat music, jazz and the Sanremo circuit. The collaboration with the poet Roberto Roversi in the 1970s produced Il giorno aveva cinque teste and Anidride solforosa. Piazza Grande had appeared at Sanremo in 1972. He later took over his own lyrics, writing Come è profondo il mare, L'anno che verrà and Futura. Caruso, written in 1986 about the tenor's last days in Sorrento, became an international standard recorded by singers on both sides of the classical divide. He died in 2012.
