Biography
Mila Georgieva was fourteen when she auditioned for the Juilliard School and won a place in Dorothy DeLay's class in 1989; she had begun the violin at four and studied in Sofia with Mincho Minchev. Two years at the Guildhall School in London with Yfrah Neaman followed, and later work in Vienna with Gerhard Schulz of the Alban Berg Quartet. Prizes in Italy, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria came before she was out of her teens, and she has since played as soloist with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Kurt Masur and Herbert Blomstedt, the Bamberg Symphony and the Tonhalle Orchestra, and at Ravinia with Christoph Eschenbach, at the Salzburg Easter Festival, at Marlboro and at Prussia Cove. She became a concertmaster of the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart in the 2002/03 season; by 2019 she was working in the merged SWR orchestra. Four discs recorded for RCA Victor in Japan document her solo playing, and she performs on a Stradivari of 1703. Cho-Liang Lin taught her at Juilliard beside Dorothy DeLay, and her childhood tours took her to Spain, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, India and China, with performances recorded for Italian, French and Swiss television. Georges Pretre conducted her with the Bamberg Symphony and Richard Hickox with the Zurich Tonhalle, and she has played with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Belgian and Dutch radio orchestras, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra of Budapest and the RIAS Symphony, at the Stavanger festival, in Stuttgart under Andrey Boreyko, in Tokyo with the New Japan Philharmonic and on tour in Japan with the Sofia Soloists.
