Tenor
Biography
Puccini's Manon Lescaut brought Penyo Pirozov to the State Opera Burgas in March 2008; he returned six years later for the concert presentation of Johann Strauss II's Der Zigeunerbaron in September 2014. Born on 12 December 1969, he completed his opera-singing studies at the State Academy of Music in Sofia in 2001 and was taken at once as a solo artist of the Stefan Makedonski National Music Theatre, where the Strauss and Kalman tenor parts became his own, Sandor Barinkay in Der Zigeunerbaron among them. His technique was shaped with Nikola Nikolov, Alexandrina Milcheva and Anna Tomowa-Sintow, and in Salzburg with Boris Bakov. He sang on every tour the Music Theatre made between 2001 and 2009 — Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Greece and Japan — and on 22 May 2006 in Mozart's Requiem under Gennady Rozhdestvensky, with Tomowa-Sintow in the soprano part. In the 2009-2010 season he made his Sofia Opera debut as the Duke in Rigoletto.
