Perihan Nayır Artan

Elisabetta's "Tu che le vanità" and Lady Macbeth's "Nel dì della vittoria", sung on the same September evening in 2020 in the courtyard of Istanbul's Archaeology Museum, mark out Perihan Nayır Artan's territory exactly: the heavier Verdi soprano, and beyond it Wagner and the late-Romantic concert literature, Strauss's Four Last Songs among the works she is associated with. Born in 1975, she is a soloist of the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, and that 2020 evening — seven sopranos in succession with the company's orchestra under Zdravko Lazarov — opened the eleventh International Istanbul Opera Festival. She sang again in the gala that opened the sixteenth, at the Atatürk Cultural Centre on 10 May 2025.
