Biography
Master-class concerts brought Plamen Kumpikov before Sofia audiences in 2004 and 2005, when he sang in the galas of Raina Kabaivanska's international class. His other work moves between the opera stage — Verdi's Nabucco, Puccini's Turandot — and the vocal-symphonic repertoire, in which he has sung Karl Jenkins's The Armed Man. He trained in Asen Selimski's class at the National Academy of Music in Sofia and with Mirella Parutto at the Boris Christoff academy in Rome, and made his Sofia Opera debut in 2004 as Mr Peachum in Britten's version of The Beggar's Opera. He sang Potapych in Prokofiev's The Gambler at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden under Daniel Barenboim and took the role to La Scala, and created a part in Bozhidar Spassov's The Enchanted Man in Plovdiv in 2015. He has been a soloist of the Plovdiv Opera since 2014 and of the Stara Zagora Opera since 2015.
