Mezzo-soprano
Biography
Bulgarian repertory companies employed Srebrina Slavova in both staged opera and concert performance. Born in Karnobat on 2 February 1950, she grew up in a singing household: her father, an engineer with a fine voice, was among the founders of the amateur opera in Burgas. After a German-language secondary school in Burgas she graduated in 1975 from the Sofia Conservatory, from the classes of Liliana Zhablenska and Konstanca Vachkova, and joined the Burgas Opera at once, staying to the end of her performing career and afterwards running the company's surtitles. The mezzo-soprano repertoire gathered there runs from Carmen, Azucena, Amneris and Eboli to Adalgisa, Cherubino, Isabella in L'italiana in Algeri, Mistress Quickly, Fenena and Siébel, beside operetta and a great deal of work for children. She has taught opera singing at the National School of Music and Dance Art in Burgas.
