Cello · Viola da gamba
Biography
The cellist Ute Groh recorded Brahms's Double Concerto in A minor with the violinist Bojidara Kouzmanova and the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000–01. Music Minus One issued the result in two editions — one omitting the cello, one the violin — so that a student may sit down and play the missing line against a real orchestra. Nayden Todorov conducted. Groh comes from Styria and studied cello with Wolfgang Herzer at the University of Music in Vienna. The viola da gamba became her second instrument many years after that degree, and from 2016 she began giving concerts on it. She has held principal desks in ensembles largely devoted to early music - the Wiener Bachsolisten, Concilium Musicum Wien, the Grazer Symphonisches Orchester and the Sinfonietta Baden - while chamber music became her centre of gravity. In 2021 she qualified as a patissiere, and has since built a concert series that sets chamber works beside desserts of her own making.
