…a top-class, sensitively playing orchestra — the Plovdiv Symphony under the demanding baton of Nayden Todorov…
An opera evening musically well realised and rounded in itself, staged by the ensemble and conductor (Nayden Todorov) of the Bulgarian State Opera of Ruse.
…While the two stars in the roles of Mimì and Rodolfo displayed vocal impeccability, the remaining parts and the ensemble were in the best of hands — those of the director of the Rousse opera and its renowned company… The inspiring conductor Nayden Todorov renounced a sentimental interpretation; under his direction the opera's finale sounded as dramatic as possible, yet without the all-too-common saccharine tearfulness. The excellently coordinated orchestra played with great dexterity and enormous musical satisfaction, conveying that mood to the audience. Todorov managed to sustain the listeners' interest and tension, supporting the choristers and singers in their arias, duets and ensembles. This performance of La Bohème enchanted not only with a fine singing pair of lovers, but also captivated us with a remarkable ensemble achievement. The company from northern Bulgaria demonstrated an enormous musical and artistic potential.
For once, with Nayden Todorov, the orchestra of the State Opera Russe was excellently disposed — secure and with great joy in music-making. The conductor supported and inspired the choristers and singers in the arias, duets and ensembles.
…Todorov conducted clearly and with commitment, achieving on the whole good ensemble playing and a compact sound.
"Who says there are no good conductors, only good orchestras?" [...] The director of the Rousse Opera presented this work in such a way that its sound came as close as possible to the original German, preserving its rhetorical form and lyrical content.
Nayden Todorov is a good conductor. He sought — in a somewhat wilful yet clear manner — to lay down distinct traces of sound.
Verdi, Bizet, Puccini, Donizetti or Leoncavallo — their arias could not be missing from this "Best of" — again sensitively accompanied by the Plovdiv Symphony Orchestra under Nayden Todorov.
Under the masterly musical accompaniment of the symphony orchestra from Plovdiv under the sensitive and energetic direction of Nayden Todorov, it was the passionately performed interpretations of the protagonists in particular that made the evening an unforgettable event for all visitors.
Under the musical direction of Nayden Todorov, chorus and orchestra delighted with their demanding standard.
With "Carmen", the Bulgarian Verdi Opera Rousse made a guest appearance on Friday evening at the Langenthal Stadttheater… the musical direction is in the hands of Nayden Todorov. By Langenthal standards, the stage work with more than 100 performers is an event… The Verdi Opera Rousse realises Georges Bizet's composition convincingly.
Conductor Nayden Todorov sees in "Carmen" not merely a stormy, turbulent drama, but conducts with a keen sense for the tonal-colour nuances of the score. The audience at the Saturday performance showed itself highly satisfied.
…a capable opera Kapellmeister who holds the performance firmly together and lovingly brings out many an interesting detail.
…with just as much passion — and the excellent support of the Plovdiv Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Nayden Todorov — the soloists sang their way through the evening.
…the Plovdiv Symphony Orchestra — carefully prepared and reliably led by Maestro Nayden Todorov.
…the mighty yet sensitive orchestra under the baton of the temperamental, almost fanatical conductor Nayden Todorov created the overall impression of a memorable opera evening that could perhaps not have been better even in Milan, Munich or Hamburg…
World-class opera… Conductor Nayden Todorov had the whole perfectly in hand — for all his rigour he allowed the music to unfold, accompanied the soloists with fine intuition and set striking points of focus…
After the overture to Rossini's "Barber of Seville", staged with verve by the Bulgarian Plovdiv Symphony Orchestra under Nayden Todorov, the evening sets off with playfulness and vocal artistry… Todorov brings singers and orchestra together with a perfect fit. The musicians sense every mood with their instruments.
Under the baton of the conductor Nayden Todorov (Bulgaria), the artists sang Christmas songs together with famous arias from the operas Tosca, Otello, La Traviata, Rigoletto and Turandot. The five included in their musical performance Italian canzonettas and characteristic Neapolitan songs, which amounted to a true musical feast.
…the Italian tenors, accompanied by the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nayden Todorov… recently giving an exceptional concert on the stage of the Sala Palatului… It was a feast of quality music… Todorov has been the preferred choice at the podium of well-known orchestras around the world. He has accompanied renowned singers such as José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.
Todorov is endowed with a rare gift of communication with the performers, which is why he has been the choice of some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and soloists.
Nayden Todorov has only been opera director in Russe for two years and a lot has happened in that time. Todorov brings out nine to ten productions a year, some with young conductors and modern directors.
That the orchestra — an ensemble accompanying with differentiation and accuracy under the direction of Nayden Todorov — was placed high up proved advantageous not merely in terms of sound…
The guests were the chorus, orchestra and workshops of the Bulgarian State Opera of Ruse, led by their chief conductor Nayden Todorov, who presented an exquisite collaboration, rousing playfulness and great skill.
It is only right to give due credit to the production team of the performance: conductor Nayden Todorov, director and set designer Gian Gianotti… this production of the opera "Don Pasquale" is a serious challenge to the taste of the mass audience and a worthy delight for our opera public.
