Himno a Toledo

Emilio Cebrián Ruiz composed the Himno a Toledo in 1934 to a text by Federico Mendizábal y García Lavín, and it was first performed on 6 April of that year, during the Second Republic. Cebrián was then director of the municipal band of Toledo, one of a line of Spanish bandmaster-composers who wrote for wind band as a matter of course rather than for orchestra. The hymn is scored for band with chorus and remains in use in the city. His pasodobles circulated far beyond Castile and are still standard band repertoire.
