Fantaisie for piano and orchestra
- Composer
- Claude Debussy
- Composed
- 1889
The Fantaisie for piano and orchestra was written in 1889–90, shortly after Debussy's return from Rome, and withdrawn by the composer before it could be heard. Vincent d'Indy had programmed it at the Société Nationale; at the rehearsal Debussy decided that only the first movement would be played, then removed the orchestral parts from the stands. He revised the score at intervals for years and never released it. The first performance came in 1919, the year after his death. Its cyclic construction is close to Franck and d'Indy.
