Tsenko Minkin conceived Ikarus as early as 2003 but wrote it only in 2022; the sculptor Alexander Dyakov supplied the subtitle, The Heavenly Anchor. It is the second panel of a trilogy of symphonic parables for large orchestra, following The Bay of Dromos of 1997, with a third, The Eye of the Mother of God, still unfinished. The design has a prologue, two large sections and an epilogue: the first states the theme of flight, the second is a double fugue whose second subject imitates crowd gossip. The Musicautor Culture Fund supported its realisation.
