Dated 11 December 1784 in Mozart's own catalogue, the last of the six concertos he produced in that single extraordinary year. Six years later he took it to Frankfurt for the coronation festivities of Leopold II and played it there in October 1790 alongside K. 537. The first movement is built on a marching dotted rhythm that never quite becomes a march, and the finale combines a rondo with fugal writing for the wind — a combination he would use again in the Jupiter.
