Fairy tales
- Composer
- Václav Trojan
- Composed
- 1959
Trojan assembled this concerto in 1959 out of the music he had written for Jiří Trnka's puppet films, work that had occupied him since the 1940s and made him the best-known film composer in Czechoslovakia. Seven movements each portray a fairy-tale figure, from the opening invitation to dance into the tales through the sleeping princess, the magic box, the dragon, the roundabout and the sailor with his enchanted accordion. The accordion is written into the orchestra rather than set against it, and the whole is closer to a suite than to a concerto.
