Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione appeared in Amsterdam in 1725 as Vivaldi's opus 8: twelve concertos dedicated to Count Wenzel von Morzin, of which the first four are The Four Seasons. La caccia, number ten in B flat major, takes its title from the hunt, and its outer movements imitate horn calls and the chase in string writing alone. Vivaldi told his dedicatee that several of the concertos had been circulating for years before he sent them to the printer.
