Requiem
- Composer
- Andrew Lloyd Webber
- Genre
- Sacred
Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote his Requiem in memory of his father, bringing his characteristic melodic language into dialogue with classical forms. The work reached the stage in New York in 1985, with Plácido Domingo, Sarah Brightman and the young Paul Miles-Kingston among the soloists. A year later it received the Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition. The result belongs to a different world from Webber’s celebrated musicals, yet it retains the directness of expression that made his music immediately recognisable.
