Superman March (Superman)
- Composer
- John Williams
- Genre
- film music
- Composed
- 1978
Williams composed the Superman score in 1978 for Richard Donner's film, directly after Star Wars and Close Encounters, and used the same method: a march whose rhythmic call fits the syllables of the character's name, with a separate love theme for the flight sequence. The orchestra is large and the writing deliberately old-fashioned — brass fanfares, a lyrical trio in the manner of a concert march — a decision that shaped superhero scoring for the next forty years. The march is programmed as a concert piece and has outlasted several restarts of the film series.
