Амерсфоорт

Amersfoort preserves a historic centre of canals, squares, churches and former fortifications. The Koppelpoort combines a land gate with a water gate, while the Muurhuizen recall the first city wall through houses built using material from its demolition. The Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren, also known as Lange Jan, is a conspicuous landmark above the centre. Sint-Joriskerk stands on the Hof square.

The Mondrian House adds a modern artistic perspective to this historic setting. Its displays explore Piet Mondrian and the De Stijl movement, including a full-scale reconstruction of his Paris studio. Museums, theatre programmes and festivals contribute to the city's cultural calendar, bringing contemporary activity into a setting still strongly shaped by its earlier urban fabric.
