Аскойтия

Azkoitia, in Gipuzkoa, preserves a cultural landscape of palaces, civic buildings and public spaces associated with Basque history. The Baroque Insausti Palace is linked with Xabier de Munibe, Count of Peñaflorida, and the eighteenth-century movement that promoted learning and scientific inquiry. His work led to the establishment of the Real Sociedad Bascongada de los Amigos del País in 1764.

The town also has a strong association with pelota. Beneath the town hall's arcades, the Kontsekupe playing space remains a symbol of that tradition. Other cultural landmarks include the Aizkibel municipal library, housed in the former Urola railway station, and works connected with the sculptor Jorge Oteiza. Traditional music and dance are presented in public spaces, linking the town's architectural inheritance with community life.
