Бад Брюкенау

Bad Brückenau’s spa history belongs to the valley of the Sinn, where mineral springs were recorded before the establishment of the resort by the prince-abbots of Fulda in 1747. Its surviving ceremonial architecture reflects successive periods of investment in the resort.

The Kursaal building, designed by Johann Gottfried Gutensohn and constructed between 1827 and 1833, is a central landmark of the Staatsbad. Its white sandstone exterior draws on Italian Renaissance architecture. Inside, the King Ludwig I Hall occupies the main two-storey block, with a former royal box above; the Lola Montez Hall lies behind it. Concerts, theatrical performances, balls, lectures and conferences continue to use the building. These rooms preserve the connection between the spa’s courtly past and its continuing role as a place of public entertainment.
