Бинген

Bingen stands at the entrance to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage landscape. Its Museum am Strom occupies a former electricity works built in 1898, with views towards the Binger Loch. Permanent and temporary exhibitions explore the town's history from Roman times, the artistic tradition of Rhine Romanticism and the life and work of Hildegard of Bingen.

Among the archaeological collections is a group of sixty-seven Roman medical instruments dating from the second century. The museum also hosts concerts, lectures and other cultural events. Hildegard's legacy provides a particular connection between the town and medieval religious, literary and musical culture. Her elevation as a Doctor of the Church in 2012 gave renewed attention to a body of work that continues to be studied and interpreted in Bingen.
