Културен център „Медина Елвира“

The Centro Cultural Medina Elvira is Atarfe’s municipal cultural complex, completed in 2007 on the site of a former school. Designed by García de los Reyes Arquitectos Asociados, the building combines an auditorium with a cultural wing around a central entrance space. Stone, copper and glass distinguish its exterior. Its facilities have housed a library, exhibition space and theatre teaching, while the auditorium presents drama, dance, music and film. The centre takes its name from Medina Elvira, the historic settlement associated with the area. Atarfe stands on the plain west of Granada, over the buried remains of Medina Elvira — the Muslim city that preceded Granada as the region's capital and gave this cultural centre its name. The building is the town's municipal theatre and auditorium, run by the ayuntamiento, and it does what such halls do across Andalusia: local companies, film, the town's fiestas, and the touring opera productions that work the province in season. Verdi's 'Nabucco' and 'Aida' have been staged in it.
