La Coupole in Saint-Loubès opened in 1993 as a multidisciplinary performance venue. Its programme includes music, theatre, comedy and productions for younger audiences, alongside municipal and community events. The building provides approximately 950 square metres divided into three spaces that can be opened into a single room; audience capacity varies with the configuration. Renovations begun in 2020 renewed the performance space and improved accessibility. La Coupole also offers residencies, making its stage and technical resources available to local artists, and organises encounters between visiting performers and students in municipal and community arts programmes. In the Entre-deux-Mers vineyards east of Bordeaux, Saint-Loubès keeps a salle de spectacle called La Coupole — the municipal hall that gives a commune of a few thousand a proper stage. Touring opera companies use it: Bizet's Carmen and Puccini's La bohème have both been staged there, full productions brought to a village hall before an audience drawn from the surrounding wine country. It is a reminder of how much of French operatic life happens well away from the opera houses.
