Another Way to Die, the title song of Quantum of Solace in 2008, was written and produced by Jack White, who played guitar, piano and drums on it and sang it with Alicia Keys — the only duet among the Bond themes. It went to number one in Finland and number nine in Britain, and divided opinion sharply. Born John Anthony Gillis in Detroit in 1975, he formed the White Stripes with Meg White in 1997, a two-piece confined to red, white and black; White Blood Cells and Elephant carried the garage revival into the mainstream. He went on to the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, began a solo career with Blunderbuss in 2012, and founded Third Man Records, a label built around vinyl. He has won twelve Grammy Awards, and the White Stripes entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025.
