Сорина Мунтеану

A Romanian soprano in the dramatic and spinto repertoire, Sorina Munteanu spent the seasons between 2005 and 2008 largely with the State Opera Stara Zagora, and travelled with the company on its long North American tour of 2005 — Aida and Carmen played across the United States, in Annapolis, Sandusky, South Bend and Eugene. Ivaylo Dzhurov, Dimiter Kyurkchiev, Jivko Peychev and Janitza Nesheva were among those beside her. The major Verdi and Puccini roles remain the centre of her work in Romanian and international houses. She was born in Ghioroc, Arad County, on 17 August 1965, and completed her studies at the Faculty of Music of the West University of Timișoara in 1995, making her debut the following year in Carmen. She has been a soloist of the Romanian National Opera in Timișoara and of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, and from 2003 of the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest; outside Romania she has sung in Frankfurt, Essen, Sofia, Varna, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, and at festivals in Thailand and the United States.
