The Telemann Experiment

The piece began with a recording of Telemann's Tafelmusik that Jon Lord bought while touring Germany in the late 1980s. Nearly two decades later he took the Réjouissance from it and set it against a Swedish polska, scoring the result for keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and strings. The Trondheim Soloists gave the first performance on 20 March 2004 in Trondheim, with Emilia Amper on the nyckelharpa. Lord later made two orchestral versions, in 2010 and 2011, the second with full percussion. His own description of the mixture ran: Swedish folk music, German baroque, jazz-rock and orchestral display.
