Wait a While

Wait a While comes from Pictured Within, the album Jon Lord recorded in Cologne in 1997 and released the following year on Virgin Classics. The words are by Sam Brown, who also sings it, and the song was lifted from the album as a single in 1999, when Lord toured Germany to promote the record. Its scoring is characteristic of the whole project — piano and strings, with woodwind colour, and no drum kit driving the phrases. After sixteen years without a studio album, it was this quiet vocal number that carried Lord's new work to a wider audience.
