Alexander Vladigerov — conductor, composer and son of Pancho Vladigerov — wrote The Wolf and the Seven Goat Kids as a musical for children on the Brothers Grimm tale. It belongs to a group of stage pieces he made for young audiences, among them Chervenata shapchitsa and Veselite muzikanti, later issued together on a double album. The idiom is light jazz rather than nursery music, with dance numbers and a scored overture. Bulgarian opera houses have kept the piece in repertoire; the Sofia Opera production runs fifty minutes without an interval and is played for children from three upwards.
