City
Bratislava's Old Town brings together medieval fortifications, civic buildings and later palaces. Michael's Gate survives from the city's defensive circuit, while the historic Town Hall houses the Bratislava City Museum. St Martin's Cathedral recalls the city's role in the coronations of the Kingdom of Hungary. Other buildings record its musical history, including the eighteenth-century house where Johann Nepomuk Hummel was born. The Slovak Philharmonic presents concerts at the Reduta, close to the Danube, and its published programme includes the Bratislava Music Festival. These institutions place historical architecture and live music within the compact centre of the Slovak capital.
