Capitol Theatre

Concord's Capitol opened in 1927 as a link in the Maine–New Hampshire Theatres chain then controlled by Joseph P. Kennedy, and was decorated in the Egyptian manner fashionable in American picture palaces of that decade. The cinema trade eventually left it behind. A long restoration returned the building to use in 1995, since when it has operated as the Capitol Center for the Arts, presenting touring drama, music and comedy across four rooms of very different scale — the main auditorium, now named the Chubb Theatre, seats 1,304, while the smallest holds 125. Bulgarian companies touring the eastern United States brought 'Cavalleria rusticana', 'Pagliacci' and 'Aida' to it.
