Changsha Concert Hall opened on 28 December 2015 in the Binjiang Cultural Park, in the city's Kaifu district. The complex contains three auditoriums of different scales: a main symphonic hall, a medium-sized multifunctional room and a smaller performance space. The principal hall uses a terraced arrangement inspired by a canyon, placing listeners on several levels around the performance area. The smaller rooms accommodate solo recitals, chamber-sized music and dance presentations, as well as meetings. Together they allow the concert-hall complex to present different kinds of performance within the riverside cultural district. Ground was broken in August 2006, but the first performance came only on 28 December 2015. The hall stands in Changsha's riverside cultural park beside the city library, museum and planning exhibition hall, and covers 28,161 square metres over four floors: a symphony hall of 1,446 seats scaled to a four-wind orchestra, a 490-seat multipurpose hall, a 298-seat chamber room and two rehearsal studios. The pattern on the outer wall comes from the guqin piece Xiaoxiang Shuiyun.
