The Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls was dedicated on 6 April 2000. Its name recognises benefactors Edward and Cathy Gallagher and Carl and Peggy Bluedorn. The project also received state and university support and contributions from more than 1,400 donors. Three performance halls are integrated with rehearsal rooms, classrooms and a glass-fronted lobby. The Great Hall accommodates touring productions and concerts, while the building also supports the university's music teaching and ensemble activities. Its programme brings chamber music, orchestral performance, dance and Broadway touring productions to the same campus complex. On the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls stands the arts centre that carries the names of the two donor families who made it possible. Its Great Hall is the building's principal concert room, used by the university's own orchestras, choirs and bands and by the ensembles, recitalists and touring companies who reach this corner of eastern Iowa — for much of the Cedar Valley it is the room in which live orchestral music is heard.
