Biography
Chris Cornell wrote You Know My Name with David Arnold and sang it over the titles of Casino Royale in 2006 — the first Bond theme left off its film's soundtrack album, because Cornell wanted it on his own record, Carry On. It reached number seven in Britain and took the World Soundtrack Award for best original song written for a film. Born in Seattle in 1964, he was the singer and chief lyricist of Soundgarden from 1984; Superunknown entered the American chart at number one in 1994. He founded Temple of the Dog in 1990 in memory of Andrew Wood, fronted Audioslave with three members of Rage Against the Machine from 2001, and recorded on his own from Euphoria Morning in 1999. He won three Grammy Awards. Cornell died in Detroit in May 2017, at fifty-two; he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Soundgarden in 2025.
