Tenor
Biography
Both ends of Guillermo Orozco's life belong to Huelva, where he was born in 1966 and where he began to study before going on to Madrid and the tenor Pedro Lavirgen. His operatic roles included Alfredo, Rodolfo, Edgardo, Pinkerton and Don José; he also sang leading zarzuela parts in works by Sorozábal, Guerrero, Torroba and Vives at the Teatro Real and the Teatro de la Zarzuela, at the Liceu and the Maestranza, and in theatres across Europe, Asia and the Americas. He won international singing prizes and left recordings of both halves of his work. He died in 2024. In a 2011 interview he spoke of moving towards the baritone repertoire, although later notices continued to describe him as a tenor. His Madrid studies were at the Escuela Superior de Canto; he won the singing competition at Logrono in 1994 and appeared in Jose Tamayo's Antologia de la Zarzuela. His death came on 2 April.
