The eighth dance of the first set, in G minor, is a furiant — the fast Czech dance whose rhythmic accents keep shifting between duple and triple groupings. Dvořák used the stylised form elsewhere, in the Sixth Symphony and in the third movement of the Terzetto for two violins and viola, and the same dance drew Smetana and Brahms. The first book was written in 1878 for piano duet at Simrock's suggestion, after the success of the Moravian Duets, and orchestrated by the composer in the same year.
