Comme facette mammeta was written for the Piedigrotta festival of 1906, with music by Salvatore Gambardella and words by Giuseppe Capaldo, a waiter in a Naples café who wrote lyrics on the side. The title asks a young woman what her mother put into her when she made her — roses and lilies, milk and honey, according to the verses. It is a quick song in the tarantella orbit rather than a slow romanza, and its success made it one of the pieces by which Gambardella's name survived.
