Suite (Forrest Gump)

Silvestri had to write around a soundtrack of period records that already ran through most of Forrest Gump, and the orchestral score for the 1994 film amounts to well under an hour. He built it on a single piano figure, first heard under the feather at the opening and returned to at the close, scored for piano and strings with almost no brass. Keeping the orchestra out of the historical set pieces, where the pop records do the dating, leaves the score attached to the character alone. It was nominated for an Academy Award.
