Fenesta che lucive
- Composer
- Traditional
Fenesta che lucive was published in Naples in the first half of the nineteenth century by Guglielmo Cottrau, who collected and edited Neapolitan songs for the publishing house he ran; the melody has also been attributed to Vincenzo Bellini and to earlier anonymous sources, and none of the attributions is settled. The Neapolitan text tells of a man who finds his beloved's window dark and learns from her mother that she has died. It is among the oldest items in the Neapolitan canzone repertoire and is normally sung slowly, close to a lament.
