Suite (Pirates of the Caribbean)

The score for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was written in 2003 under extreme time pressure, after an earlier set of music was rejected weeks before release. Klaus Badelt carried the credit; Hans Zimmer supervised the work and supplied thematic material but could not be named, being contracted to another studio at the time. A team of composers divided the cues between them. The result — driving ostinatos, minor-key string writing and a march that behaves like a rock riff — set the sound of the whole series and of much adventure scoring after it.
