Biography
Siegfried became a recurring role in Lance Ryan's career. Born in White Rock, British Columbia, in 1971, he sang the role at Bayreuth — in Frank Castorf's Ring of 2013 — at German opera houses, and took it into Daniel Barenboim's Ring at La Scala. Otello, Peter Grimes, Énée in Les Troyens and Florestan stand beside the Wagner, and his conductors have included Zubin Mehta, Christian Thielemann, Kirill Petrenko and Marek Janowski. He appeared in Nabucco in Hannover in 2004 and Weinheim in 2005. His teachers included Gianni Raimondi and Carlo Bergonzi; he won the AsLiCo competition in 2002 and joined the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe on moving to Germany in 2005. Bayreuth had him as Siegfried in 2010 and again in 2014, and Siegmund, Lohengrin, Calaf and Bacchus belong to the same line of work. He also appeared as Bacchus at the Metropolitan Opera and as Florestan at the Vienna State Opera.
