Biography
Easter 2003 brought Peter Buchkov onto the stage of the Sofia National Opera for Bizet's Carmen on 3 May, in a large Bulgarian cast joined by the Bodra Smyana children's choir. Born in Sofia, Buchkov read classical singing at the National Music Academy there, in the classes of Svilen Raychev and Pavel Gerdjikov, taking his master's degree with Leporello in Don Giovanni. He worked with the opera houses of Stara Zagora and Plovdiv, and from the 2002/2003 season he was a soloist of the Sofia National Opera, where Don Giovanni, Andrea Chenier, Attila, La traviata, Carmen, L'italiana in Algeri, Macbeth and Otello entered his repertoire. He studied further in the master classes of Caroline Dumas in 1998 and Kaludi Kaludov in 2003. In 2001 he was a laureate of the Hristo Brambarov competition and received its special prize for his Banco in Verdi's Macbeth. Opera festivals in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Japan have taken him abroad.
