Two Italian staples carried Stefan Tulumbadjiev through the seasons from 2002 to 2005 — Puccini's La bohème in Plovdiv, and Verdi's La traviata, which he sang across the United States on the State Opera Stara Zagora's long American tour. He graduated from the State Academy of Music and Arts in Plovdiv in 1980 and studied with the Bulgarian opera singer Sabin Markov, going on to sing with the state opera houses of Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. He has performed in Spain, France, Greece and Great Britain, and his roles include Count Ceprano in Rigoletto, the King in Aida, the High Priest in Nabucco, the Old Gypsy in Il trovatore, the Marquis d'Obigny in La traviata, Angelotti and Sciarrone in Tosca, Colline in La boheme and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor.
