Chiquitita

Chiquitita was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and first performed on 9 January 1979 at the Music for UNICEF concert in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations in New York. ABBA gave half of the song's royalties to UNICEF from the outset and, in 2014, raised the share to the whole; by 2021 the song had brought the agency 4.8 million dollars. The Spanish-language version, recorded later that year, topped charts across Latin America and Spain and sold more than 2.5 million copies. The title is a Spanish diminutive; the lyric addresses a friend in distress.
