Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)

Recorded in August 1979, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) was written to give ABBA a new single for the North American and European legs of their tour, and was released that October as the only fresh track on the compilation Greatest Hits Vol. 2. Agnetha Fältskog sings the lead over a minor-key synthesizer figure that existed before the words did. The song belonged to no studio album at the time. Its instrumental hook returned to wide circulation in 2005, when the group allowed Madonna to build Hung Up around a sample of it.
