Anastacia

Chicago-born and raised in New York, Anastacia Lyn Newkirk danced and sang backing vocals for other people before the television talent programme The Cut put her in front of a record label. Not That Kind arrived in 2000 and "I'm Outta Love" made her a fixture in Europe and Australia; Freak of Nature followed in 2001 and the self-titled Anastacia in 2004, carrying "Left Outside Alone". Resurrection, Evolution and Our Songs came later. She calls the mixture sprock — soul, pop and rock at once. Paid My Dues and Sick and Tired were among the singles that followed, and Our Songs, released in 2023, gives English versions of songs associated with German performers. In 2019 she appeared in musical theatre for the first time, as the Killer Queen in We Will Rock You.
