Mozart entered the C major concerto in his catalogue on 9 March 1785, four weeks after the D minor K. 466, and played it at a subscription concert in Vienna the next day. The two works could hardly be less alike: military rhythms and trumpets here, storm in the other. The Andante, muted strings under a long floating line, acquired an audience of its own after it was used in the 1967 film Elvira Madigan — a nickname now printed in record catalogues although it has nothing to do with Mozart or with the concerto's other movements.
